ACWF Calls for Women to Contribute to Economic and Social Development, Regular COVID-19 Prevention and Control
April 12, 2020The All-China Women's Federation (ACWF) held a symposium on April 9 to study and implement the spirit of the important speech delivered by General Secretary Xi Jinping on April 8 at a leadership meeting for making new arrangements on implementing regular epidemic prevention and control measures and fully advancing work resumption.
Shen Yueyue, President of the ACWF, emphasized women's key role in epidemic prevention and control, patient treatment, work and production resumption, economic and social development, family life as well as community services. Shen urged women to accelerate resumption of production and
restore the order of life and achieve the goals of economic and social development this year on the premise of regular epidemic prevention and control.
Shen indicated that women's federations at all levels should adjust the focus of work in response to changes in the epidemic situation and find the best way to serve women and the overall interests.
Shen noted women's federations should bring forth new work concept, improve working mechanism and methods, perform the duties of guiding, serving, and contacting women and integrate resources to serve the economic and social development in a better way.
Efforts should be made to further do the work of community- and family-based prevention and control well, integrate social resources and give full play to the role of women volunteers and women's social organizations in epidemic prevention and control, Shen said.
Women's federations were urged to take concrete, meticulous and effective measures to care for impoverished women, single mothers and disadvantaged children and protect women and children's legitimate rights. Enhanced efforts should also be made to offer family education guidance services and psychological counseling online and offline and advance the resumption of work and production and poverty alleviation on the premise of regular epidemic prevention and control.
Huang Xiaowei, Vice-President and First Member of the Secretariat of the ACWF, presided over the meeting.
Members of the Secretariat and the Leading Party Members' Group of the ACWF attended the symposium. Officials from relevant departments of the ACWF, the Office of the National Working Committee on Children and Women under State Council, and the Women's Studies Institute of China exchanged their ideas on mobilizing women to play active role in epidemic prevention and control and the focus of work in the next step at the meeting.
